TAPKESHWAR
This is a cave temple dedicated to Bholenath. Its main sanctum is inside a cave. In this cave, drops of water continuously fall on the Shivling. That is why this temple of Lord Shiva was named Tapkeshwar. Tapak is a Hindi word, which means to fall drop by drop. According to a legend of Tapkeshwar Temple situated on the banks of river Tons – this cave is believed to be the abode of Dronacharya (guru of Kauravas and Pandavas at the time of Mahabharata). His son Ashwatthama was born in this cave. After the birth of the son, his mother was not able to feed milk. He prayed to Bholenath after which Lord Shiva made cow udders on the roof of the cave and the stream of milk started flowing on the Shivling. Because of which Lord Shiva was named Dudheshwar. In the time of Kalyug, this stream took the form of water. For this reason this temple is called Tapkeshwar.
