Masar Tal is located in the Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. Budha Kedar Dham can be reached by covering a distance of 200 km from Dehradun. It is believed that Umrana Shah was the son of Ghumrana Shah. His wife Phoolmala had no children. When Phoolmala worshiped Lord Sheshnag, she was blessed with a son and a daughter. Both brothers and sisters chose a place to live. Which is called 'Mahasartal'. Both brothers and sisters of Nagvanshi reside in these two locks. There are two big lakes at this place which are called 'Mhar' and 'Mharini' pools. There is a mythological temple of 'Mhar' deity in Mahasartal, in the sanctum sanctorum of which there is a serpent deity made of stone. On the occasion of Ganga Dussehra, the idol of Mahasarnaag (snake deity) is carried from the original temple Vishan in a doli to Mahasartal for bathing. On this auspicious festival, sacrifice and worship by bathing Mahasarnag in Vedic rituals with chanting of mantras. Worship etc. is done. On this occasion, devotees come from far and wide and earn virtue by bathing in this pool. This fair to be held on Ganga Dussehra has been going on since ancient times. The length of this pool is about 70 meters and the width is about 20 meters. While 'Mharini' taal is circular. The depth of both the locks could not be ascertained.
