CHAMOLI - HEMKUND SHAHIB
HEMKUND SHAHIB is the highest gurdwara, which located at a height of 4329 metres. It is close to the Valley of Flowers in Uttarakhand Chamoli district. Due to glaciers and snow-covered routes, Hemkund is inaccessible from October to April. When Sikh pilgrims come in May, they immediately get to work repairing the path's damage from the winter. This run through is known as kar Seva and is a key element of the Sikh faith. On the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway, Govindghat is where you enter the area. Travellers from Delhi take the rail to Haridwar and then take a bus via Rishikesh to Govindghat. Buses & Taxis to Govindghat are easily available from major destinations like Rishikesh, Pauri, Rudraprayag, Srinagar, Chamoli etc. Once you arrive at Govindghat, the next step is to trek from there to Ghangaria, which is approximately 13km away. This trek can be done on foot. Finally, from Ghangaria, the last leg of the journey involves a challenging 6km steep trek to reach Hemkund Sahib.
If you're traveling from Delhi, you can find taxis and buses available from ISBT Kashmiri Gate to Rishikesh. The distance between Delhi and Rishikesh is approximately 240km. From Rishikesh, you can easily find taxis and sharing cabs to take you to Govindghat.
In case you're traveling by plane, the nearest station to Joly Grant Airport in Dehradun is about 292km Govindghat. From the airport, you can hire taxis to reach Govindghat.
